Fusion & Chic for Michael & Clarissa's Engagement

Updated: Jan 1, 2021

Blue, the colour of tranquil and relaxation. Exactly the vibe we got from our lovely couple, Michael & Clarissa. We were beyond excited when they came to us wanting different ideas from a traditional Chinese Engagement!

Laid back, and eager to style, we were able to explore a plethora of ideas with them.

Using modern elements and touches of yellow gold, this celebration was indeed a reflection of both their joyful personalities.

Let's go on a virtual journey to the intimate engagement ceremony in honour of Michael & Clarissa.

Bespoke invitation suite by Ecriture, the dangling tassels truly gives it its finishing touch! Spot our invitation styling with the added peach Alstroemeria flowers, subtle touch but it completes the look.

We absolutely adore Clarissa's engagement dress, the chinoiserie and wave pattern beautifully encased in blue, by Lina Woentono, Surabaya based designer. Completing the look with traditional Chinese fan and hair pieces, Clarissa truly looked like a princess from the olden times!

Absolutely captivated by the details of the dress, with embroidered pair of blue birds as the strap, and not to mention the slit and the long train trailing behind for a more stylish look.

Not your typical type of traditional backdrop eh?

To build the modern feels with a touch of Chinese vibes, we combined the two elements together, abstract translucent structure, bold lines and neon lights for something more distinctive.

Still wanting a touch of traditional, we opted for blue as the dominating colour as it symbolises immortality and advancement in the Chinese culture. We also chose to add yellows and gold, which represents royalty, and prosperity.

To match the entire theme, of course our table settings had to be dominantly blue as well!

For the family table, we had a long centrepiece trailing across each end of the table, completed with gold geometric vases and candlesticks. We also used mirror surface underneath the centrepieces to showcase a full appearance.

Moving on to, oh yes, plates. We think it's one of the most important piece that ties together a table setting! For them, we chose all white porcelain plates with scallop edges, paired together with gold cutlery for the modern look.

To add a personal touch, we had place cards and menu for each individual guest, beautifully tied together with twine and wax seal.

Imagine being here, won't you feel so appreciated?

The Chinese engagement ceremony, known as "Tingjing", where the groom's family gifts a necklace to the bride, a symbol of the upcoming marriage. The joy was contagious! We couldn't help but smile witnessing this happy union.

We wish you a very Happy Engagement Michael & Clarissa! We can't wait for your wedding day, and looking forward to creating more exceptional ideas with you!
